EPIC Readers:
To earn the EPIC Reader Award, students must earn:
Students should read books from a variety of genres including:
Realistic Fiction
Historical Fiction
Fantasy (including Science Fiction)
Narrative Nonfiction (informational told like a story)
Expository Nonfiction (informational with labels, diagrams, definitions, etc.)
Biography
Poetry
Traditional Literature (folk tales, fairy tales, myth, legends)
We strongly recommend that students read non-fiction titles twice to retain the information. Usually non-fiction AR tests are a bit more difficult, so take your time reading those. Our goal is 80% accuracy on all AR tests.
EPIC Readers are not given a specific list of titles that must be read. We believe students become better readers by choosing books that interest them. Of course, if students would like suggestions on a particular genre, we have lists of awesome titles available.
As always if you need help finding a great book, just ask!
